Good day.

The currency format for South Africa is incorrect in SharePoint online. It shows a comma for the decimal separator instead of a period.

The locale for the SharePoint site is set to English (South Africa)

When creating a list item in this site, with a currency column, the format is incorrect (as below). South Africa uses a period as the decimal point separator. Not a comma.

I do not want to amend the regional setting as it will affect other things. Can Microsoft please correct the currency format for South Africa.

Thank you.

    Dear Ashwyn Assy,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Q&A Forum and bringing this matter to our attention regarding the incorrect currency format displayed in SharePoint Online when using the locale "English (South Africa)."

I understand how frustrating this limitation can be, especially when precision in currency formatting is crucial for your work. However, at the moment, SharePoint Online:

    • Does not allow customization of the decimal format inside a Currency column.
    • And it inherits the number and currency format directly from the site’s Regional Settings, which are based on the underlying locale (Culture Info).

Unfortunately, changing the Regional Settings at the site level can affect several other aspects of your site, such as:

    • Date and time formats
    • Number separators
    • Calculated columns and formulas

Due to these impacts, I do not recommend changing the Regional Settings as a workaround in this case.
